FIRST DUE HOUSE FIRE

C Shift – At 15:45 hrs units were dispatched to box 1136 for the house fire. T411 (Lt Wildman) arrived on scene with a two story single family with smoke showing from side Adam. As the Lt made a lap around side Charlie he found fire showing from the walk out basement door. E409 laid a 4 inch supply line and stretched an 1 ¾ line thru a door on side David and advanced down the basement stairs where they found the laundry room off and quickly knocked down the fire. T411 laddered; vented and performed the primary search (negative) assisted by TL405, and then assisted E409 with checking for extension. E205 picked up E409 supply line and pulled a back up line to division one. Command held E409 T411 to assist the investigator’s releasing the rest of the first alarm assignment.

ACCIDENT WITH ONE TRAPPED BOX 1100

B Shift - Units from company 11 were dispatched to box 1100 Richmond Highway and South Gate Drive for the auto accident with one trapped. Upon arrival Rescue 411 found a two car accident with one on its side with the driver trapped. Rescue411 stabilized the vehicle then removed the roof. The pt was turned over to waiting EMS personnel for packaging and transport to the local hospital.

B Shift - At 18:55 hrs units from the 6th Battalion, Fort Belvior FD and the City of Alexandria were dispatched to box 0900 for the reported house fire. M409 arrived on scene reporting smoke showing from side Adam of a two story single family house. E409 laid a 4in supply line from a hydrant and positioned on side Adam. The crew stretched a 1 3/4 line to division one were they found fire in the kitchen area knocking it down quickly. E411 picked up E409 line and stretched the back up line. Truck companies laddered and opened up from the inside while the Rescue preformed the primary search (negative). Utilities were controlled and command held company 9 and 11 for over haul releasing the rest of the first alarm units.

C Shift - At 02:42 hrs Rescue 411 was dispatched to assist Battalion 5 units on a auto accident reported over turned with one trapped. E405 checked the reported address with nothing found and had other units check the streets around the area. R411 pulled up along side a vehicle with its 4 way flashers on and noticed a large debris field in the grass along side the street. As the driver positioned the rig and the generator was activated it became apparent to the personal on the left side of the rig that the car was split in half with the front end resting along a tree line. R411(Lt Urps) quickly confirmed the location to PSCC and had his crew check for injuries. Upon investigating there was no one located in the two front seats with the back end missing. Crews searched the area and located the rear of the car approx 150 feet from the front due the the damage a thermal imager was used to search the wreckage and surrounding area for victims (none found) Lt Urps was informed that the 14 year old driver had walked away and was at a friends house, an Engine and Medic was re-diverted to that location were they found the victim with minor injuries and transported to the local trauma center.E405 remained on scene and command released the remainder of the box.

AUTO ACCIDENT ONE TRAPPED

C Shift - After returning from a first due chimney fire, Company 11 units were on the road again at 08:57. This time for an auto accident with one trapped in box 1191 in front of 6027 Richmond Highway. E437 (returning from the house fire) arrived on scene just ahead of E411 and reported a van on its side with the driver trapped. R411(Lt Urps) and crew arrived and stabilized the van using the para tech struts, cribbing and the front winch. After the van was stabilized R411 crew removed part of the roof and steering wheel to gain access and package the patient. Ems crews moved in and removed the driver onto a long board and transported him to the LZ.

FIRST DUE 3 ALARM HIGHRISE FIRE

A Shift - Units from the 6th Battalion and City of Alexandria were dispatched to box 1191 for a fire reported in a high-rise at approximately 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 26, 2009, in the Huntington area of Fairfax County. The 16-story condominium, The Montebello, is located at 5902 Mount Eagle Drive.
A building security guard called 911 to report fire on the seventh floor of the building. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke in the hallways of the seventh and eighth floors and fire in unit 705. Second and third alarms were struck by the Incident Commander, bringing over 90 emergency personnel to the scene. The seventh and eighth floors were evacuated, and several dozen occupants from other floors sheltered in place. Firefighters assisted several occupants to safety during the evacuation.
Firefighters rescued two cats while fighting the fire. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. One adult has been displaced. Red Cross is assisting the displaced resident. Several occupants were evaluated by medical personnel; however, none were transported to the hospital.
Damage is estimated at $25,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An unattended candle caused the fire.

B Shift - Around 04:30 hrs Rescue 411 and units from the 5th Battalion and City of Alexandria were dispatched to the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway for an auto accident with entrapment. Units found a two car head on accident with both drivers trapped. Command special called for a second Rescue Company to assist with the extrication. Rescue 426 was dispatched. Rescue 411 arrived and split its crew and started operations on both vehicles until Rescue 426 arrived. Both Rescue Companies worked together to remove the victims but unfortunately one driver succumbed to their injuries. The other driver was transported to the local trauma center.

A Shift: At 15:02 hrs units from the 6th Battalion and Fort Belvoir were dispatched to box 2433 8324 Fry Road. E424 arrived on scene with fire showing from side Charlie, E424 stretched an 1 3/4 line into the house as E411 stretched an 1 3/4 line to side Charlie knocking down the deck fire. R411 conducted the primary search as the trucks opened up and laddered the structure. Command requested a second alarm and staged those units. E424 stopped any further extension inside the house. Command down graded the assignment holding units from the 6th for over haul.
NEW RESCUE AND MEDIC IN SERVICE

After a long wait the new Rescue is in service. The unit is a 2008 Pierce Velocity Chassis with front and side air bags. R411 has a 220" wheel base with an 81'" interior walk in box. It has Tak 4 Independent Suspension and is powered by a Detroit series 60, 490hp engine with an Allision EVS Transmission. Other features are a Harrison 20 KW PTO generator, a 250 GPM Hale pump with a 200 gallon water tank, 3 winches; one front 12,000lb; one rear 12,000lb and receivers on both sides for a 9,000lb portable electric winch, 2 electric cord reels at 225', one air reel 250' and a Will-Burt night scan light . Also new to the fleet is a 2008 Freight-liner / Horton Medic powered by a Mercedes Benz 350hp motor with an Allision Transmission.

A Shift - At 19:44 hrs units from the 6th and 5th Battalion were dispatched to box 1122 for a reported house fire. PSCC was receiving multiple calls and address for this incident. E411( Lt Young) arrived on scene at 4408 Rolling Brooke Ct with fire showing from sides A and B and thru the roof. A second alarm was requested by command. An aggressive interior attack with hand lines kept the fire from spreading to the rest of the structure and was held in check to the attic area. All searches were negative.
